NOW IT'S TIME TO ACT!
Since January and the initial shock everyone saw in their utility bills going through the roof, Florida Power & Light, as well as the Florida Public Service Commission both echoed the same thing over and over.
Basically saying the decision has gone through all the legal channels and has been approved, end of discussion. This translates into, DEAL WITH IT!! To us, that is an unacceptable answer. The people of NW Florida deserve REAL ANSWERS!
The excuses of "unusual circumstances" because of the rising fuel costs, the economy, inflation, or that somehow it's YOUR FAULT because you are doing your laundry, keeping your home at a temperature that YOU feel comfortable in, that something in YOUR home is obviously broken all of a sudden, should no longer be tolerated... The ONLY thing that changed between December and January of 2022 was FPL taking control of Gulf Power.
IN 2021 FLORIDA POWER & LIGHT REPORTED A NET INCOME* OF
$2.935 BILLION
*Net income is the amount of accounting profit a company has left over after paying off all its expenses.
IT'S TIME TO PROTEST FOR ANSWERS!
COOP Inititiative of Northwest Florida believes that SOMETHING went wrong when FPL "flipped the switch" and officially took control over Gulf Power.
Out of the hundreds of screenshots we've seen in our group and various other groups there is no ONE THING that connects any of them. The complaints vary based on a number of things including, but not limited to, the percentage of the dollar amount increase, the kWh usage numbers skyrocketing, some have seen little to no change, some have seen their bills go up hundreds of dollars, some have seen their bills double, event TRIPLE!! But so far, the only thing they all truly share is CONCERN, CONFUSION, AND IN SOME CASES DISPARE OVER HOW TO PAY!!
It's time Florida Power & Light AND the Florida Public Service Commission start LISTENING TO WE THE PEOPLE! They have both BREACHED THE PUBLIC TRUST and must answer to the PUBLIC THEY CLAIM TO SERVE!
